NDS provides instruction in several different styles: Kathak, Bollywood, Nepali Folk, Manjushree, and Lakhe dance. Our classes are held at public schools through the Fairfax County Parktakes system, the Nepali School of Washington, D.C., the India International School in South Riding, and Durga Temple in Lorton, VA. We also offer private classes for those who wish to have a more individualized, rigorous, and concentrated program. Residencies for schools and other organizations are also available. Kindly inquire for details.

Kathak
KathakOne of our school's major styles is Kathak, a classical Indian dance form, currently offered at the India International School, and privately. Kathak demands great skill, power, and coordination, and requires regular practice to achieve a beautiful balance between the pure dance element, facial expression, and the storytelling presentation. Kathak may be learned at any age, however, children traditionally begin instruction between four and six years of age. more
Bollywood
Bollywood DanceBollywood has become one of the hottest dance styles internationally, owing its popularity to Indian Hindi movies. Combining modern choreography with modified classical movements, Bollywood has evolved into a fun and energetic dance form that is both aerobic and rich in variety. more
Nepali Folk
Nepali Folk DanceAlmost as soon as children in Nepal can walk, they dance. With more than 367 festivals in any calendar year, the country is blessed with national and regional dances that highlight village life, the tragedy and beauty of love, and the incredible natural world of the Himalayan region.. Nepali Folk dance, performed by men and women alike, is filled with enchanting and rhythmic twists and turns, accompanied by the music of the madal, the traditional drum of the country. more
Buddhist Manjushree

ManjushreeThe belief system of Buddhism is equally respected and adhered to in predominantly Hindu Nepal. Great reverence is accorded to Lord Buddha, and this is apparent in the Manjushree dance, which highlights the founding of the Kathmandu Valley, and describes, in sublime detail and through rich costuming, the spiritual qualities of Manjushree, who represents the god of wisdom to all Nepalis. more

Lakhe
LakheAnother Buddhist dance is named after the god of the demons, or Lakhe. This masked traditional dance, rarely seen outside of Nepal, is fast, colorful, and accompanied by cymbals, bells, and a form of clappers. Storytelling elements bring to life the purpose of the Lakhe in protecting the residents of the Kathmandu Valley from evil spirits and mischief. more
