Workhouse Arts Center: Destination Bollywood

Nepal Dance School invites you to attend the Youth Arts Celebration at the Workhouse in Lorton, VA on May 19, where we will be presenting a free Bollywood program from 4:30-5:00, followed by the opportunity to purchase Himalayan handicrafts from NDS. The Workhouse will be screening the hit movie, “Om Shanti Om,” at 7:30 P.M. For more information about the Youth Arts Celebration and the Destination Bollywood Event, please visit their site.

Nepal Dance School at Heritage India

We’d like to thank NDS dancer Tasherit Dahal and our advanced Bollywood class from India school in Bethesda for their wonderful performances at the Heritage India Festival at Dulles Expo Center on May 12, 2012. Ms. Dahal presented a Kathak tarana, which received rave reviews, while the Bollywood group did an exciting medley of popular hits.

NDS on Tour

The members of NDS have recently returned from another successful tour in Virginia presenting their Kathak, Bollywood and Himalayan programs to children and teens around the state. The response and participation by students was astounding, and we thoroughly enjoyed the welcome we received. Thanks especially to all the staff, teachers, PTA, principals, and Young Audiences of Virginia for making our Winter Tour such a success!

New Kathak Classes

In addition to children and adult Bollywood classes, NDS is now offering beginner Kathak for ages 7 and up at the India School of Bethesda. The class requires no previous experience and focuses on basics such as footwork and hand movements. Todas will also be taught. Students learn some theory as well, and are accompanied by live tabla.

New Classes for Fall

Nepal Dance School is now giving Bollywood classes at India School Inc. in Bethesda, Maryland at the Thomas Pyle Middle School on Sundays. Beginner and advanced levels are offered, both with original choreography. Level One for children is at 11:10 A.M. and Level Two, for teens and adults, starts at 12:30. Registration can be completed on-site; classes will run through December. Come and join us to learn or improve your Bollywood skills!

Bollywood Workshop at Sun & Moon Yoga Studio

NDS will be presenting a two hour Bollywood Workshop at the Sun & Moon Yoga Studio in Fairfax on October 16 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Registration is now open. The class includes basic workout dances and original choreography to a Bollywood song taught by Anil and Cordula Dahal. Students also receive a practice CD. Cost is $65 per person. NDS & Fashion for the Cure

We are pleased to announce that NDS is once again partnering with Fashion for the Cure this October. The goal of this event is to raise money for breast cancer awareness initiatives. Tasherit Dahal will be participating as a model in the event. Mark your calendars for October 15, 2011 from 6:30-9:00 P.M. at the Arlington Arts Center at 3550 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington, VA 22201. Discounted tickets are available through NDS for $20 ($25 at the door).

In order to better accommodate some of our visitors, we’re happy to announce that we have integrated Google Translate into our site. At the top left of each page, you’ll find a widget that lets you select your language of choice and automatically view the page in your selected language. In addition, we’ve added the ability to search our entire site. You’ll find the box at the top right of every page. Meghdoot, the Cloud Messenger, coming June 18

Tasherit Dahal performs in Meghdoot, the Cloud Messenger, a dance drama presented by IDEA on June 18th at 7:30 P.M. at Thomas Jefferson Theater, 125 S. Old Glebe Road in Arlington, Virginia. Tickets are available online (General admission: $10, Students/Seniors: $5).
